The Nest’s Structure
At The Nest, our class structure is carefully organised to support children’s development through three age-appropriate groups: Ducklings, Robins, and Herons. Children are grouped based on their age and developmental stage, with seamless transitions as they grow in confidence and independence.

Ducklings provides a calm, nurturing environment for our youngest children (under 2s), with a high level of support and an adult-to-child ratio of 1:3.
As children move into Robins (2–3-year-olds), the focus shifts to building social and communication skills, supported by a ratio of 1:5.
Finally, Herons (3–4-year-olds) prepares children for their next steps in learning with more structured routines and school readiness, following a ratio of 1:8.
Children benefit from the expertise of a qualified class teacher and a skilled team of Early Years practitioners, all of whom are experienced in supporting young learners.
Every child is assigned a key person who builds a strong relationship with the child and their family, ensuring consistent, personalised care. While each class has its own dedicated space and routine, children also come together for shared activities and outdoor play, helping to build friendships and a sense of belonging across the setting.
