Curriculum Overview

‘Little lives today, big adventures tomorrow’

Curriculum Overview – Ages 1 – 4

When we give every child the best start in their early years, we give them what they need today. We also set them up with every chance of success tomorrow.

Our Guiding Principles are:

  • Child-centred, guided play approach.
  • Emphasis on care, routines, relationships, and exploration.
  • Planned adult-led and child-initiated activities.
  • Flexibility to follow individual interests and developmental stages.
  • Aligned with EYFS prime and specific area

Curriculum Overview

A Balanced Approach to Learning

At The Nest, we follow the EYFS Statutory Framework, which highlights the importance of providing a balance between child-initiated and adult-led learning.

  • Adult-led activities are planned and directed by practitioners. They introduce new tools, ideas, and skills, helping children to learn concepts they might not discover on their own.
  • Guided play is child-centred but supported by practitioners. Children choose how to play, explore, and experiment, while adults gently guide, question, and extend their learning through the ShREC approach.
  • Child-initiated learning is when children take the lead. They decide what and how to explore, practising and applying skills independently, following their own interests and curiosity.
