Ethos and Vision
Welcome from the Headteacher at Portway Primary School
At The Nest, our vision is to nurture unique, confident, and curious learners who are empowered to shape the future. Grounded in play, meaningful relationships, and high-quality interactions, we encourage children to explore, discover, and grow every day. We believe that emotional security and wellbeing are the roots of confident learning, and that by nurturing today, we help children grow into curious, capable individuals ready to transform tomorrow.
At The Nest – Daycare at Portway, this is captured by one simple statement that guides all we do: Little lives today, big adventures tomorrow.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family to The Nest.

Our Vision Principles at The Nest
At The Nest, our vision is woven into every moment of care, play, and learning. We believe that children thrive when nurtured in a setting built on strong values. These five principles guide everything we do:
Communication
We believe that communication and language are the foundations of learning, relationships, and emotional wellbeing. We nurture children’s voices — helping them listen, express themselves, and connect with others in a rich, language-filled environment.
Collaboration
We grow together. Strong, respectful relationships between children, families, and staff form the heart of our Daycare. These secure, responsive connections help each child feel safe and supported to flourish.
Care
Care is central to all we do. We value the small moments — whether it’s a comforting hug, a shared laugh, or helping a friend. Our attention to children’s physical, emotional, and developmental needs creates a nurturing space where every child feels seen and valued.
Choice
We honour children’s right to play and explore. Through play, children make choices, express creativity, and discover who they are. We empower children to make meaningful decisions and learn from the outcomes in a safe, supportive environment.
